I read the entire "rants". It is sane in what seems to have become as insane world. I have always been a middle of the road whatever that means democrat with many republican friends. Our rural area is mostly republican. They all watch Fox as if they are watching real news. These are colleged educated otherwise rational people. You are right tax and spend is better than borrow and spend. We have to pay more tax and recieve less service there is no other rational way out of this. Thank you for writing the rant I am going to send it to my friends that watch fox news. The tea party people really scare me as they are me "white, middle class" and they appear totally detached from rational thought in problem solving. It would be easier if I could say oh they are "them" but they aren't they are at best illogical or at worst bigots. See you in Springfield in Nov We greatly enjoy you and your band. Dave and Bev Pryor Admin reply: Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful response and for taking the time to read the darned stuff. Please come up and say, "Howdy" when we're all in Springfield, IL. RT

Met you for the first time at Gettysburg May,2010 (Granite Hill Campground). Your three times on stage was the HIGHLIGHTS of the festival!! REALLY enjoyed your humor and performances. Thank you! Keep doing it!! Admin reply: Thanks so much for taking the time to post and especially for the wonderful, kind words. It was a great festival and we were proud to be a part of it as always. I'm glad you were there too; it wouldn't be anything without you. RT

RT, I must say that I agree with you. I believe everything you wrote is well thought out and that social morality is possessed by the majority of humans unless their idealism is beaten from their minds by previously damaged people; I am lost for any explanation for the lack of concern or activism on the part of our children and their children. I was engaged in a conversation with a couple of people who said their is no hope to neutralize the power of the evil Cheney but a generation of believers derailed Lyndon Johnson and drove a paranoid and extremely dangerous President Nixon from his Presidency. In regard to the Tea Baggers, it brings to mind a biblical adage that Abraham Lincoln was pleased to use often - paraphrased " It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than open one's mouth and prove yourself so" Ignorance is bliss for some and it is very amusing to others. More people should "Teach Their Children Well". Take care my brothers and sisters - we can meet in the middle and bring back the pride we all felt about our nation. Moomay Admin reply: Howdy Alice; It seems like you and I always agree. Thanks to you for your thoughtful writing and for hitting some points that I should have but didn’t. It does seem that we used to be a nation that sought to help the disenfranchised and now (at least the loudest amongst us) seem to be more in tune with keeping them just that way. RT

Having read installment #12, I find it fruitful food for thought. I had thought of myself as a Republican for many years, but I am disappointed in both parties. Often, I have found myself voting for the Democrats' candidate simply because the Republican party had put forward a fool. Both parties have been disappointing. I read both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal to try to have a prayer of a chance to form my own opinion. Fox News has become too negative for me. So is MSNBC - just from the opposite perspective. I actually know what the Sixth Amendment is. I practiced law for 23 years. What happened to Tort Reform? Everyone talks about it when they want to be elected, but it fizzles out faster than a 4th of July sparkler. My husband and I enjoy your music so very much - especially your Sunday program. We were at Grey Fox last summer. Quite a little trek from Virginia, but we are glad we went. Your albums are restorative to our souls. Admin reply: Thanks so much for writing. I feel the same as you do. It's so good to get a note from someone who has the same angst. It makes me feel not so quite alone. Hope to see you down the pike this year, too. RT

My favorite bluegrass festival moment was at Strawberry Park on a perfect day just at sunset when Uwe Kruger looked up at the hillside full of people, went silent for a moment, then said, "There's nothing like a bluegrass festival." Admin reply: He sure got that right. rt

Dear Ron, You made me realize something last night. A lefty is someone who hates the policies that make the rich richer and a righty is someone who hates the policies that give away everything for free to the poor. Either way, it's all hate based. Gotta warm up and be more tolerant of all people, both the weak, and the strong. Love your on stage humor and music. Thanks, Joe Admin reply: Howdy Joe; Thanks for writing. I appreciate the way you were able to sort it out for yourself so succinctly. I didn't even know that I had addressed left and right, having strived so diligently to avoid those terms. But I sure do agree that hate doesn't accomplish much. All the best, RT

Ron, Thank you for yet another inspiring and entertaining installment. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading each installment as your words are so well thought out and precise. I can agree with you on most, if not all, of your points of view. You’re rationality and composure appears to be so normal to me, yet it is seems such a rarity in today’s America (and world). I can really appreciate someone like you who can relate your opinion and views to both sides and not conform to either one. I believe that minds of your caliber are a dying breed and it is truly unfortunate. Again thank you for the latest installment, it was very much worth the wait and I eagerly anticipate the release of the next installment, no matter how long it takes. I genuinely appreciate the compassion that you have for our country and its people. On another note the latest installment from DBFS is simply amazing. I have enjoyed most of your albums after seeing you guys in Buffalo, WY several years ago. My severe addiction to music, and especially bluegrass, was particularly enhanced by the exposure to you and the DBFS. I have enjoyed many of your albums and cannot wait for my next chance to see you guys live again. Thank you for your contribution to music; as a music fan and a musician, it is truly inspiring. I’m sure by now you’ve received tons of responses to the twelfth and so if you’ve read this far, I am happy. If not I only feel bad in that you might not know that this is one more email that is positive in response. To summarize, thank you for your music and thank you for taking the time to put into words your thoughts and concerns about our great country, you are a true patriot. On a side note, if you and the DBFS can ever manage a performance in Casper, WY, I will do everything in my power to make that happen. I think everyone deserves to experience Ron Thomason and the Dry Branch Fire Squad and would be very happy to bring that experience to Casper. Keep up the good work. Best Regards, Brendan Lamb Casper, WY
